calvesThe word “EENHANA” means “CALVES” in the Oshikwanyama language, the indigenous language of the Ohangwena Region. Both the name and the origin of Eenhana date back to the early 19th Century. Back then, Eenhana was only a jungle. People used to come to Eenhana to hunt for wild animals such as Elephants, Kudus, Buffalos, etc. Soon afterwards, people moved to the area in search for grazing pastures for their animals. The first lives stocks to have been settled in the area were calves and that’s where the name Eenhana came from.

Eenhana, the Forest Town

Eenhana would be best identified for its natural environment of indigenous trees. Apart from the Calves, it’s the natural forest environment that features prominently in Eenhana

Omupapa tree: Almost 70% of the trees in Eenhana are from this species and as a result, it is the main feature in our logo.

Mahangu: Crop farming, mainly in Mahangu, is the only reliable source of food in the whole Region, thus Mahangu cobs are also prominent features on the Town’s logo.
